State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and other leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its dialogue partners attended the opening ceremony of a regional summit on Monday.
The annual meeting brings together world leaders, including heads of state from the 10-national regional bloc, as well as U.S. President Donald Trump, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
After the ceremony, the Southeast Asian leaders proceeded with the plenary session where they are expected to talk about a range of issues, including counter-terrorism, South China Sea and North Korea's nuclear programme. The 2-day Summit in Manila of the Philippines with peace, stability and cooperation high on agenda will conclude on Tuesday. The Philippines holds the rotating chair of ASEAN this year.
