State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and other ASEAN leaders along with European Council President Donald Tusk convened the ASEAN-European Union 40th Anniversary Commemorative Summit on Tuesday. Tusk expressed the European Union's commitment to help combat violent extremism in Southeast Asia during this regional meeting at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila.
Donald Tusk, European Council President said "Terrorist ideologies have spread across continents. We can mitigate this threat if we work together, sharing information on suspects and trends of concern."
Joined by the ASEAN 10 Member States and ASEAN Secretary General, the Summit also discussed and reviewed ASEAN-EU cooperation and its future direction.
