China's second manned submersible returns after diving to 4,534m

3 October 2017

China's second manned submersible and its mother ship, Tansuo-1, returned on Tuesday morning to the country's southern coastal city of Sanya, Hainan Province. The submersible, "Shenhai Yongshi" came back after carrying out 338 tests in the South China Sea. During its 40-plus-day underwater journey, it made 28 dives, at the maximum depth of 4,534 meters, deeper than its descending capacity of 4,500 meters.

The manned vessel departed from Sanya City on August 16. More than 90 percent of the core components are developed and made by China its own. The submersible marks the country’s another breakthrough in exploring the deep sea.
