A two day workshop for represe ntatives of various ministries of the government of Myanmar to provide an overview of the climate change related risks posed by, and to, key investment projects in Myanmar was commenced at Thingaha Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw starting from 15th of May.
The workshop is conducted with the objectives to strengthen understanding among Government of Myanmar officials involved in the EIA and investment approval processes for investments in key sectors of risks posed by climate change on these investments, introduce and provide training on a set of initial screening tools that can be used by officials and those involved and the EIA process to help screen climate change risks and impacts of investment types and disseminate knowledge on other types of relevant tools to enable them to screen key risks as part of the EIA assessment process, as well as detailed case studies in at least 3 sectors impacted by climate change.
Around 60 participants from related ministries, departments, Yangon and Mandalay City Development Committees attended the workshop.
The workshop is organized by Myanmar Climate Change Alliance (MCCA) in cooperation with the ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation and Vermont Law School and will be run for two days from 15th to 16th of May.
