Democracy Festival: A Weeklong Event Finished With Final Anyeint Competition

A week long Myanma Democracy Festival was successfully concluded with the final Anyeint competition at National Theatre in Yangon at Thursday’s night.

Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein and his officials graced the event together with the Anyeint enthusiasts.

5 anyeint teams from lower Myanmar and 3 teams from Upper Myanmar participated with their utmost effort in the final contest on the nights of Wednesday and Thursday.

Chief Minister, Yangon Region Government, Phyo Min Thein said “While I’m enjoying the contest, I'm aware of those young people's talent are really excellent than I expected. And their comedy dialogues are also inclining to the good for the society. And I believe that these young generations can deliver the democracy terms to the youths and the people. This democracy festival is really an achievable festival.”

Aiming to raise awareness on Democracy’s norms and its values among the public, anyeint contest could bring the objectives and also plays as a part of enhancing the culture.

A panel of 7 professional judges assessed the performances of comedy, anyeint dances, literature and traditional orchestra. 

Organizer, Director Thura said “Anyeint pwe or Anyeint performance show is near to be vanished starting from the last 30 years. Only 4 anyeint teams remained even in Mandalay which is called anyeint City. So we organized the event in order not to disappear this precious identity of Myanmar and to bring full essence of democracy from the artists to the people.”

Judge, Comedian Moe Di said “We don’t impose much restriction on the comedies and jokes. But we suggest them not to play blame game about the past in their comedies but if the current government has the mistake, they can openly make the jokes.”

The first prize is presented to Zwe Anyeint Team with 588 points. Khit Thit Kyay Hmone and Shwe Nyar Myay yep Kyel Pwint Myar follow as second and third respectively.

Meanwhile, apart from the awards like best comedian award, best traditional orchestra award, best dancer, new face award, people’s choice, all the contestants were also presented the consolation awards. 

1st prize winner, Zwe Anyient Team, Comedian Sein Lan said “We are very happy to be awarded for our efforts and we achieve such award because of my teachers from thee lay thee. We promise that we are going to perform with cooperative spirit in the future too.”

Best Dancer Awardee, Nyein Chan Khaing said “I’m thankful to our teachers and as first, I really don’t know much about democracy. So later I’ll perform my best to inform about democracy to the people.”

So, this year Myanma democracy festival is designated as a remarkable event started on 15th September, the international day of democracy and finished on 21st, the international peace day.
