The accurate information regarding with the efforts and arrangements of the government for the repatriation and resettlement of the displaced people to be shared to the international community, the union minister for social welfare, relief and resettlement, Dr. Win Myat Aye together with the diplomatic corps in Myanmar and the representatives of UN agencies took a field trip to the Maungtaw region, Rakhine State on Thusday.
The diplomatic corps and the representatives of UN agencies were greeted by the union minister, chief minister and state ministers of Rakhine and responsible officials at the Sittwe Airport. At the lounge of the Sittwe Airport, the union minister Dr. Win Myat Aye elaborated the diplomatic corps and representatives of UN agencies on the process of UEHRD for the peace, stability and development of Rakhine State, preparations of the union government and state government for the repatriations of displaced people in line with the agreement between the two countries.
Next, the union minister, chief minister and diplomatic corps and representatives of UN agencies left Sittwe by Helicopters for Ngakhuya temporary repatriation camp where will receive the returnees through waterway. The villagers greeted the diplomatic corps and the diplomats asked the villagers about what they want to know. At the briefing hall of Ngakhuya temporary repatriation camp, deputy director U Zaw Min clarified the preparations for the repatriations of the displaced people. Then, the responsible officials conducted the diplomatic corps around the camps to see the necessary preparations.
Later, they proceeded to Taungpyo-Letwe temporary repatriation camp where will receive the returnees through the land route and observed the preparations for the repatriation of returnees and visited Myanmar-Bangladesh Border Bridge. Afterwards, they arrived at Hlaphoekhaung camp to be provided a temporary accommodation for the returnees who have been scrutinized at the receiving camps, the diplomatic corps and representatives of UN agencies are explained about the works done and to be continued. And diplomats asked what they want to know about the camp.
Then, the field trip group led by the union minister and chief minister observed the preparations around the camp. In the afternoon, they arrived at the Kanyaungchaug special economic zone and listened to the explanation of the responsible officials about the development works of economic zone and observed around the special economic zone.
Later, they visited No (1) border pass in Maungdaw Township and Myoma market to see the safely trading and bought the items selling at the market. In the evening, the union minister and diplomatic corps arrived at Yangon through Sittwe by Air. Together with the union minister, the ambassadors, charge d'affaires, attaché and secretaries from the embassies of Egypt, Finland, Germany, Israel, Italy, Demark, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, New Zealand, Brazil, Poland and Sri Lanka and the representatives from UNDP, UNOCHA, UNICEF, UNFPA, UN – HABITAT, WHO, IOM, ADB and UNOPS.
