Hundreds protest against Poland's proposed abortion restrictions

14 January 2018

Hundreds of Poles in Warsaw protested yesterday against proposals for tighter restrictions on abortion. On Wednesday, the lower house has decided to take up work on a bill that would ban abortions. Earlier, parliament rejected a proposal to liberalise the abortion rules. This is the second bid by the ruling Law and Justice party to tighten rules that are already among Europe's toughest. Its initial plan for a near-total ban on abortion was rejected after mass protests in 2016.
