The Independent Lawyers’ Association of Myanmar opened a free library at the ILAM’s Yangon head office with the support of USAID and IBA on Thursday.
The US Agency International Development and the International Bar Association has been providing supports for ILAM including the opening of free libraries under the project named “Promoting the Rule of Law”.
Chairman, Independent Lawyers’ Association of Myanmar, Sein Win Chan said “We are trying our best to be able to open free libraries in almost all States and Regions of the country to raise the lawyers’ capacity. We made a contract with USAID and IBA since 2014 and this is the last donation by them as the contract ends in 2017 December.”
The opening at Yangon Head Office is the third time as the project provided free libraries for ILAM in MonYwa and PaThein in previous years.
At the opening ceremony, the ILAM also received the books donated for the new library by various organizations and law firms.
Chief of Party, US Agency International Development, Teresa Cannady said “Working through International Bar Association who initially partnered with ILAM and we are providing the grant to IBA who then administered the grant with ILAM. So, we all have been collaborating together to support the efforts and build this new organization.”
The representatives from USAID, IBA, the officials and members from Independent Lawyer’s Association of Myanmar attended the opening ceremony.
