Step To Peace: 12th Regular Meeting Of Joint Ceasefire Monitoring Committee

The 12th Regular Meeting of JMC-U, Joint Ceasefire Monitoring Committee – Union Level started at National Reconciliation and Peace Center in Yangon on Wednesday.

Members of the committee will report implementation of the decisions made in the 11th regular meeting. This meeting will also focus ceasefire monitoring process, verification process of Shan state by the verification team, civilian participation in ceasefire monitoring and development of standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Vice-Chairman (2), JMC-U, Saw Mathew Aye said “Ceasefire monitoring has become important and the public show interest in it. So, we will keep finding challenges and difficulties on the way to peace and harmony while we also keep building trust. In this way, we must be patient and trust each other.”

State Level joint ceasefire monitoring committees (JMC-S) were established in Kayin, Mon and Shan states, and Bago and Tanintharyi regions. 2 Regional Level joint ceasefire monitoring committees were also formed.

Vice-Chairman (1), JMC-U, General Saw Isaac Poe said “We keep implementing the JMC process in accordance with the guidelines. And, I believe political dialogue is the only way for ceasefire. JMC keeps monitoring signatory groups in line with the NCA agreement which mentions dos and don’ts for them.”

The 3-day 12th Regular Meeting is set to conclude on Friday.
